Travling Tips & Preparation

    • Up-to-date Passport! (extra photo-copy is recommended)

    • Inform Credit Card Companies of your travels (if necessary)

    • International phone plan

    • Cash

    • Headlamp- Please bring a headlamp/flashlight with both white light and a RED setting. The red setting is important during ceremony when you may want to be able to see without disturbing your neighbor with a bright light!

    • Lantern: Optional, but you may want some extra light in you living quarters, (called a Tambo). We're likely to have a few hours of electricity in the evening, but that's not guaranteed.

    • Bug spray, (natural if possible), is definitely a good idea. Your Tambo will have mosquito netting around it, and we will provide mosquito netting to go around your bed for sleeping. Some find it helpful to set up netting around a chair for reading in the morning and evenings.

    • Clothing: Usually your favorite comfortable shorts and T-shirt are fine. Though it will be fairly warm at all times, a sweatshirt and long pants may be helpful in slightly cooler evenings, and LIMA GETS PRETTY CHILLY. A set of light-weight cotton long pants and shirt has been helpful to protect from mosquitoes. Laundry service is available so it's ok to pack light.

    • Waterproof sandals or other footwear. A poncho is a pretty good idea to help keep your other clothes dry in the rain.

    • Music is always appreciated! If you bring an instrument, just make sure it fits according to peruvian airline space requirements.

  • In Lima we will be staying at Hotel Antigua: www.antiguamiraflores.com. They will be providing our airport transportation. The hotel is walking distance from the Ocean, and we'll have a bit of time to do some exploring.

    • Make sure you contact your credit card companies to make sure they know you are travelling !! This is very important as they may temporarily cancel your card/s if you do not inform them of the trip.

    • Contact your cell phone company to make sure you can use your phone in Peru. Different companies have various policies regarding international travel.

    • There is a money exchange at the airport in Lima located centrally at the baggage claim. I recommend getting more cash, (in "Soles"), than you think you will need. There are other money exchange places if you need more. It is recommended to get clean, unwrinkled US bills for money exchange, as many places will not accept old-looking bills.

  • Internet access is getting better at Tierra Vida, but may not always be available . There is also a restaurant near by with wifi and a pool, both of which you can use for a small fee.

Bendiciones! Look forward to seeing you in Peru!
